The Clinical Case
ZYGOMATIC IMPLANTS
RESTORATION OF AESTHETICS
Clinical:
Dr. Andrea Gerardi
Initial situation
The 72-year-old patient requires prosthesis replacement due to multiple fractures of the upper dental elements supporting the old prosthesis. The lack of bone in the posterior upper jaw prevents the placement of traditional implants.
The immediate-load implant-supported rehabilitation is therefore performed using posterior zygomatic implants and traditional anterior implants.

Objective
Restore both aesthetics and immediate function in a single surgical procedure, ensuring the patient is never left edentulous, even in cases with minimal remaining bone.
Treatment
Immediate-load post-extraction implant surgery using zygomatic implants.
The procedure includes extractions, implant placement, and impressions for the fabrication of the provisional prosthesis, all performed under local anesthesia and conscious sedation within 2-3 hours.
Depending on the case, the prosthesis is delivered either on the same evening or within a maximum of 48 hours after surgery.

Medical considerations
When feasible, immediate-load implant surgery offers significant advantages for patients. The procedure is minimally invasive and restores both the smile and masticatory function within a maximum of 48 hours, avoiding complex regenerative surgeries.
The prostheses are securely screw-retained and cannot be removed by the patient. In cases of severe bone loss in the upper jaw, after a thorough radiographic and clinical assessment, zygomatic implants can be used to achieve the same benefits.
